BIRDS OF HOME: v17.11, 73 species [6 additions]
Hopefully there is no argument that many of us get great pleasure from observing birds in our garden and/or the surrounding area. This gallery constitutes a selection of photographs taken in, from or close to our garden in West Somerset. Many of the photos are of visitors to our feeders, some of whom are not always too welcome or popular. Others are of birds flying by or feeding, hunting, roosting etc. on adjacent land.
The extra info after some of the file names is part of my own photo management system. The info is usually obvious when seen with a thumbnail or larger and generally the system is not used in other galleries. For example, however: [a] = adult, [f] or [f.] = female, [j] = juvenile, [m] = male, [F] = in flight, [P] = portrait, [B] = dispute, [C] = catching live (animal) food. With the current additions, however, I’m beginning to think I’m making it all too complicated.
Prior to this major review the last update was in 2015 when the Wood Warbler was added – quite a rare bird and one which was originally (five years ago) incorrectly identified. Hopefully there are not any other mistaken IDs but there are some very ordinary photos. These are there purely for record purposes.

V17.01 ADDITIONS [6]: Much improved Jay plus photo showing relative size of Jay and Chaffinch. Two photos of Long-tailed Tit at feeder. New ‘in flights’ for Redwing and Yellowhammer.
V17.08 ADDITIONS [8]: No new species. The following additions may be of interest: Chaffinch [j]; Goldfinch [jF]; Greenfinch [j2]; Greenfinch [m2]; Sparrow, House [m2]; Tit, Great [F2]; Tit, Great [E]; Tit, Great [E2].
V17.011 ADDITIONS [6]: Still no new species. 6 Blue Tit photos: [2], [2F], [3], [3F], [4] and [jF].
