Striated Heron

STRIATED HERON (Butorides striata)
Photos 11 to 23 were taken in 2007 in Mauritius at a time when there were lingering doubts as to whether the Striated Heron and (North American) Green Heron (Butorides virescens) were separate species. The remaining photos were taken in 2013 (February and July) and 2014 (February) in Grenada. The Striated Heron has spread north from South America, originally to Trinidad and Tobago but more recently there have been increased sightings of the bird in the Caribbean. Photos 24 to 42 of February 2013 (and subsequent eBird submissions) were believed to be the first recorded sighting of the species in Grenada.
