OSPREY (Pandion haliaetus) [v17.02, 84 photos]
The Osprey is unique in that it is the only species that can be found on every continent of the world with the exception of Antarctica. They are roughly two feet in length with a wing span of six feet and feed almost exclusively on fish – which they catch by diving from up to one hundred feet. Most Ospreys migrate, those in Europe to Africa in August/September, returning in the early spring. North American birds migrate to South America, although some in the southern USA stay put (e.g. in Florida). The photos in this gallery were taken in Antigua, Grenada and SW Florida. Photos taken in Europe are of much lesser quality and have not been included.
PHOTOS ADDED v17.02: 33 photos taken in SW Florida in 2016.
