AROSA, SWITZERLAND BIRDS v 17.05 (24 species) [14 waterfowl]
This gallery has been revised substantially this year. It contains a selection of photographs of birds from around Arosa at altitudes between approximately 1,800m and 2,000m. They were taken on past holiday visits (January or March since 2008) when, invariably, Arosa largely was covered in snow. There are not many species, but there are a few that are not commonplace in England (and I have not photographed them anywhere else). The Golden Eagle is the ‘worst’ example but I have included it despite the very poor images. Also, I should emphasise that the visits referred to above were principally family skiing/walking holidays and not birding trips – which may partly explain the low number of species I suppose.
In the ‘Arosa, horse racing on snow’ gallery mention was made of the frozen and snow covered Obersee Lake. A small part of that large lake is kept unfrozen and a substantial group of waterfowl gather there during the winter (at least). The birds are very interesting but I feel they may not be truly wild and could be part of a collection or the like. However, I could be wrong. So I have put ‘z’ in front of the file names and included them at the end of the gallery.
